John Egenes, 78, of Story City, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services are pending at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

John S. Egenes, 77, of Story City, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.

John S. Egenes was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Story City, to Iver and Anna Marie (Swenson) Egenes. He graduated from Story City High School in 1946 and from the University of Iowa in 1950. He married Sonja L. Carlson Aug. 15, 1948. He was a lifetime resident of Story City and owned and operated Egenes Insurance Company for more than 30 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was always active in the community.

He is survived by one son, Jay, and his wife, Gail, of Riverside, Calif., and their three children, Anna, Kirsten and Erica.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sonja, on Nov. 27, 1984; one brother, Hubert Egenes; and one sister, Dorothy Olson.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
