THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 13, 1884, page 1, column 4. “DIED – On Monday morning, March 10th, Elder Wm. Neel. Mr. Neel lived in Peoria City a mumber of years, but about two years ago he removed to his farm, about three miles east of Maxwell. He was much respected, and highly esteemed by all who know him. He was an exemplary Christian, having devoted a great portion of his time to the spread of the gospel. He was persevering, and very punctual, frequently going on foot to his appointments, when the weather was almost too inclement for individuals to be out, seldom disappointing his congregrations. He has united a great many couples in the bonds of matrimony, and officiated on a great many funeral occasions. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather a large concourse of people followed his remains to their last resting place, in the Peoria City Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Smay of the P. M. church. He leaves a wife, daughter and son to __ the loss of an indulgent father and affectionate husband.”
