Bill Estrem, 60, of Slater, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services were this morning at Ballard High School gymnasium in Huxley with the Rev. Heidi Williams of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery.Bill was born Jan. 17, 1946, in Des Moines to Casper T. and Imogene (Brazelton) Estrem. He was a lifetime resident of Slater. He worked as a carpenter and was employed at Ballard Community School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He married Ardis Proehl Oct. 12, 1968. He was president of Bell Harbor Home Owners Association Board; a member of Slater Community Club, Park Board, Building Committee at Bethlehem Lutheran Church; previous member of Slater Council and Bethlehem Church Council. He was interested in sports.
He is survived by his wife, Ardy, of Slater; three sons, Lynn, of Des Moines, Mark (Tina), of Slater, and Kurt (April), of Slater; three grandchildren, Clay, Cael and Aubrey; his parents, Cap and Imogene Estrem, of Ames; and two sisters, Shelley (Marc) Lott, of Ames, and Sharman Niss, of Des Moines.
Visitation was after 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Slater with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are requested to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Building Fund.
