THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Saturday, August 12, 2006.
Ilah Maron, 84, of Ames, died Friday, Aug. 11, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Maron was born to Lou and Marie (Churchill) Troestler Dec. 2, 1921, in Waterloo. She graduated from Armstrong High School in 1939 and from Hamilton School of Commerce in Mason City in 1940. She was the first certified professional secretary in Ames, having passed all of her tests in one sitting. In 1977 she was named Ames Secretary of the Year. She retired after twenty five years of service with Iowa State University Extension Services. For many years, she volunteered her clerical services to the Heartland Senior Center.
She married Elmer C. Maron on Oct. 26, 1940. She was a charter member of the Ames Town and Country Saddle Club, a member of the Advisory Board for Des Moines Area Community College, involved with the National Secretaries Association, and a member and choir director for the Gilbert Congregational Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Judith R. Allen, of Denver, Colo., and Kayleen (Fred Jr.) McCoy, of Story City; a son, Tom (Alice) Maron, of Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters.
Memorials may be directed to the Israel Family Hospice House.
