Sept. 8, 1919-July 24, 2006
Wilma "Billie" Drummond, 86, of Ames, died Monday, July 24, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Steve McDuff officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Billie was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Brightwood, Ore., to Howard Lester and Eva Ruth (Hart) Wood. After high school, she attended business school for two years. She married Roy Drummond May 30, 1941, in Chicago. Billie worked as a bookkeeper for her husband. She was an Ames resident since 1943.

Billie was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Ames, and Emanon. She was a Camp Fire leader and Cub Scout den mother. She served as a nurses aid during World War II at Mary Greeley Hospital. Billie enjoyed gardening, knitting, stitchery, fishing and making gifts for her family. She loved to travel.

She is survived by her husband, Roy; a daughter, Kathie Drummond of Ames; a son, Jim (Lesa) Drummond of Jewell; three grandchildren, Nichelle (Shane) Drummond-Hall of Roland, DeAnne (Mark) Drummond-Hoefer of Jewell, and David (Carla) Preston of Ankeny; two great-grandchildren, Madison Hall and Carl Preston; and one brother, Glen Lewis of Maupin, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother, and one great-grandson, Elijah Hall.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 31, at Adams Funeral Home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to either United Church of Christ-Congregational or Meals on Wheels.
