Jesse M. Nelson, 96, died peacefully on July 20, 2006 at Luther Park Care Center.
Jesse M. Nelson was born August 28, 1909 in Cambridge, Iowa. He graduated from White Oak School and the University of Commerce in Des Moines.
He was a Boy Scout District Commissioner, member of the American Legion, enjoyed bowling, bingo, carpentry and he worked part time at Porter's Hardware. Among his many accomplishment he was a model builder for Howard Hughes and the "Spruce Goose"; he also introduced the California rabbit into Iowa.
Jesse served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Combat Theater until his honorable discharge. He was a member of the Highland Park American Legion, VFW, DAV as well as 40/8.
He worked for Ford Implement in Des Moines, Iowa. Serving in many management positions, before retiring in 1969, as the Senior Production Control Agent.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Betty, children, David (Sherryll) of Madras, Oregon, Kevin (Sandra) of West Des Moines, Kirk (Sandy) of Des Moines, Julie (Michael) Witmer of Urbandale: 13 grandchildren: 12 great grandchildren one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his four sisters.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday July 24, 2006 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4-6p.m., Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions will be made to Boy Scouts (mid Iowa Council) or American Legion
