Donna Mae Schradle

Donna Mae Schradle, 68, of Ames died Friday, July 7, at the Israel Family Hospice House. Memorial services were held Monday, July 10, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Todd Jenks officiating. A graveside service was held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Donna was born in Marshalltown on Sept. 9, 1937, to David and Ruth (McCoy) Kolbe. She worked as a secretary for Construction Engineering at Iowa State for 20 years. She retired in 2001.

She married Gerald Schradle on Dec. 14, 1957, in State Center. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church, the American Legion Auxiliary and an honorary member of Sigma Lambda Chi.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald of Ames; her mother, Ruth Kolbe of Story City; three sons, James (and Jean) Schradle of Chugiak, AK, Jeffrey (Michelle) Schradle of Midwest City, OK; and David Huckins (guardian son) of Leavenworth, KS; two brothers, twins Duane Kolbe of Zearing and Donald Kolbe of Story City; two sisters, Mary Kolbe of Geneva, IL and Karen Baker of Elmhurst, IL; and three grandchildren, Alexandra and Kristofer Shradle and Sean Hanus.

She was preceded in death by her father, David, and a brother, Delos.

A memorial fund has been established in her name.

Adams Funeral Home, Ames, handled arrangements.
