From the Roland Record, Roland, Story County, Iowa, October 9, 1896.

Word reached here Saturday morning that Dan Prescott had received severe injuries in a runaway at Nevada the evening before. He was driving his team hitched to a lumber wagon, near the east elevator, when they became frightened and started to run down the track. They cramped the wagon suddenly and Mr. Prescott was thrown out. He fell between the wagon box and front wheel, and received severe injuries around the chest. He was taken to a private home and a doctor was at once called. Life lasted until Sunday noon, when he died. The funeral was held in the east church of this city and his remains interred in the Roland cemetery. Mr. Prescott was born in Norway in 1860, and has been a resident of Howard township since a small boy. He was married about a year ago to Miss Bertha Hank, and their union was blessed by one child. The many friends sympathize with Mrs. Prescott in the hours of her sad bereavement. Also the father, mother, brothers and sisters of the deceased.
