Welline (Willene) Rebecca Klonglan, 96, of Story City and formerly of Nevada, died Sunday, June 11, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg and Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial will be in Slater Municipal Cemetery south of Slater.Welline (Willene) Rebecca Klonglan was born June 1, 1910, on the home farm near Huxley to Olai (Ole) and Enger (Severeid) Maland. She was baptized and confirmed at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. She was a 1929 graduate of Huxley High School. She married Bernie R. Klonglan Oct. 23, 1930, at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. She was a farm wife and also was employed by R. H. Donnelley's. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and the Richland Township Neighbor Club. She was a lifelong resident of Story County. She enjoyed traveling and researching family heritage. She was proud of the four family genealogical histories she authored. A highlight of her genealogical work was a visit to Norway in 1988 to visit her ancestral families, farms and villages.
She is survived by two sons, Eugene D. Klonglan (Sylvia) of Farmington, N.M., and Gerald E. Klonglan (Eileen) of Ames; one sister, Viola Peterson of Kelley; three grandchildren, Kirsten Jansma (Michael) of Fruita, Colo., Jason B. Klonglan of Omaha, Neb., and Suzanne Potts (James) of Cedar Rapids; four great-grandchildren, Levi S. Jansma, Dalton M. Jansma, Rachel Jansma and Carolyn R. Potts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bernie, on July 13, 1984; one grandson, Eric Klonglan, on Nov. 4, 2003; five brothers, Johnnie, Jeff, Omar, Ellsworth and Richard; and two sisters, Elenora Maland and Ruth Gumtau.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Welline's name for the Memorial Lutheran Church Global Fund or the Bethany Life Communities Chaplaincy Endowment Fund.
