Paul Rebers

Paul Armand Rebers, 83 of Nevada died on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at the Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Memorial services were held on Wednesday, June 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Paul was born on January 24, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ernest Edward and Verna (Rand) Rebers. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1953. On December 14, 1952, Paul married E. Louise Burrell in Bowling Green, Ohio. Dr. Rebers retired as a research chemist in 1988 from the National Animal Disease Center in Ames. He was co-editor of "Radon, Radium, and Uranium in Drinking Water" which was published in 1990. Paul was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, Nevada Masonic Lodge #99, Order of the Eastern Star in Ames and Boone, Sigma XI, American Chemical Society, American Society of Microbiologists, and the Golden Kiwanis of Ames. Paul also served as a Nevada council member. He invented and received a U.S. Patent for a mechanical hand on October 8, 1946. Paul enjoyed gardening, working on computers and was a Boy Scout leader.

Paul is survived by his wife, E. Louise Rebers of Nevada; 2 sons, Michael E. Rebers of Sibley and John E. Rebers (Janice) of Marquette, MI; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Post Rebers; 2 brothers, Sidney Rebers (Barbara) and Richard Rebers (Jo Clark), all of Minneapolis, MN; and 2 grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Rebers.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his son Joseph on September 4, 1997.

The family will received friends on Tuesday and a Masonic service was held.

Memorials may be directed to the Shrine Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
