Rebecca Lynn Nerem Kooker, 37, of Ellsworth, died Sunday, June 4, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery.

Rebecca was born April 29, 1969 in Story City to Edward and Rhoda (Hondred) Nerem. She graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1987. She continued her education at Ellsworth Junior College.
She married Richard Kooker Feb. 14, 1994. To this union was born two sons, Devin and Jacob.

She worked at First National Bank in Ames and was employed at the Design College at Iowa State until Oct. 13 when she was diagnosed with leukemia. After chemo and radiation, she received a bone marrow transplant with the match from her brother, Ralph. She fought a hard fight going to Iowa City Hospital and Mary Greeley in Ames.

She was a member of Bergen Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Rick, sons Devin and Jacob, and stepson Dustin, all of Ellsworth; her parents, Ed and Rhoda Nerem of Roland; one sister, Ranae Nerem of West Des Moines; one brother Ralph Nerem and his wife, Jill, of Jewell; her in-laws, Joyce and Jim Kooker; sister-in-law, Robin Northrup of Ellsworth and Cindy Faye of Seffner, Fla.; brother-in-law, Carroll Hanson of Silver Springs, Md.; nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Gene and grandparents, Rhiner and Ida Hondred and Ed and Georgia Nerem and uncle David Nerem.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with the family present from 5 to 7 at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name.
