Paul Armand Rebers, 83, of Nevada died Wednesday, May 31, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Paul was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Minneapolis, to Ernest Edward and Verna (Rand) Rebers. He received a doctorate degree in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota in 1953. He married E. Louise Burrell Dec. 14, 1952, in Bowling Green, Ohio. He retired as a research chemist in 1988 from the National Animal Disease Center in Ames. He was co-editor of "Radon, Radium, and Uranium in Drinking Water" which was published in 1990. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nevada, Nevada Masonic Lodge No. 99, Order of the Eastern Star in Ames and Boone, Sigma XI, American Chemical Society, American Society of Microbiologists and the Golden Kiwanis of Ames. He also served as a Nevada council member. He invented and received a U.S. Patent for a mechanical hand on Oct. 8, 1946. He enjoyed gardening and working on computers, and he was a Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by his wife, E. Louise Rebers of Nevada; two sons, Michael E. Rebers of Sibley and John E. Rebers (Janice) of Marquette, Mich.; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Post Rebers; two brothers, Sidney Rebers (Barbara) and Richard Rebers (Jo Clark), all of Minneapolis; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Rebers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Joseph on Sept. 4, 1997.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Shrine Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
