Martin O'Donnell, 97, died Wed., March 18.Martin was born, the youngest of ll children of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O'Donnell, at Lugboy, County Mayo, Ireland, Nov. 4, 1828, and was the last member of his family to pass away. When a young man he left Ireland and located at Dymock, Glouchester, England, where he was married March 3, 1856 to Miss Mary Tyler. They located to Birmingham, England where three children were born to them and in 1861 they came to America taking up their first residence at Mechanicsville, in Cedar County.

In 1866 Mr. O'Donnell took his wife and children to San Francisco, Calif. They made the trip by way of New York, from there by water to the Isthmus of Panama, across the Isthmus by rail and up the Pacific coast by water. One daughter had died during their residence at Mechanicsville and another was born at San Francisco. They remained on the coast for a little more than 3 yrs and then returned to Iowa, locating near Colo, where another brother had preceded him.

The family home was located a couple miles southeast of Colo where they lived until their health and advanced years made retirement imperative and they moved into Colo, where the O'Donnell family has had continuous residence for over half a century.
