Facts from Slater
Our town and vicinity was terribly shocked Friday afternoon by the very sad news of the death of an old and well known citizen. Mr. Nels Norman, of this place, while fishing with a sein in the Des Moines River, in company with two boys, his son eight years old, and the other, a lad of fourteen, was drowned. He left the boys on the shore and dragged the net into the river. Suddenly he sank; when he arose he shouted a good-bye to his boy, and sank to open his eyes never more in this world. The boys summoned help at once, and the dead body was soon drawn to shore. After proper legal proceedings the remains of Mr. Norman was brought to Slater, Friday evening. The funeral services took place at his home at 10 p.m. Sunday, and were conducted by Rev. Linn, of Dayton, Iowa. The bereived wife and three children have the tenderest sympathies of their many friends.
