THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 18, 1912, page1, column 3. “MOTHER OF J. C. GIBSON DEAD – Mrs. Mary H. Gibson, mother of our fellow townsman, J. C. Gibson, and R. C. Gibson, formerly of Gibson Bros., but now of St. James, Minnesota, died last Wednesday, July 10th, in the seventy-seventh years of her age, and was buried at Washington, Iowa, Thursday. Mother Gibson was one of the oldest residents, having come from Vermont to Washington, Iowa in 1844. She was the mother of 10 children, seven daughters and three sons, William of Washington, Iowa; R. C. of St. James, Minnesota, and J. C. of Maxwell.”

Mrs. Alexander Gibson Died Last Evening
Was seriously Ill For About One Week
An Invalid For Several Years
Funeral Today.
Service Held At Three P.M.
Interment in the Pleasant Plains or Gibson Cemetery

Mrs. Alexander Gibson died at 6 o'clock last evening at her home in this city, after a serious illness of about a week, although she had been failing for a number of years and had been an invalid as a result of severe rheumatic trouble for a while. Just a week ago yesterday, however, there was a turn for the worse and Mrs. Gibson's trouble developed into a very serious condition from which she never rallied., but declined steadily and death was the result. In her latter years Mrs. Gibson suffered a great deal, but she had the best of care and endured her afflictions with Christian fortitude.
Mrs. Gibson's maiden name was Mary Henderson Gardener. She was born in Ryegate, Vermont, October 7th. 1835, and died in Washington, Iowa, July 10th. 1912, being in her 77th. year at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood in Vermont, and was wedded to Mr. Alex Gibson at Ryegate, December 19, 1854. They came at once to Washington County, Iowa, settling on the old homestead farm six miles north of the city and lived there 43 years and then moved to Washington, where the family home has been. Mr. Gibson died Jan. 1st. 1905. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gibson, seven daughters and three sons. The daughters are all dead, the three sons surviving. The sons are John C. Gibson, of Maxwell, Iowa; Wm. A. Gibson of this city; and R. C. Gibson, of St James, Minn. The sons were present with Mrs. Gibson at the her death. The deceased lady is survived also by one sister, Mrs. Lydia Page, who lives in the east. Also there 13 granddaughters and 2 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren surveying Mrs. Gibson. Early in life Mrs. Gibson associated herself with the church and at the time of her death she was a member of the First Presbyterian church, this city. She was a member of he W. C. T. U. also and the missionary society of her church and when her health permitted she was active in all of her various social and church connections. As a native New Englander she was also a member of the New England club, formerly one of the popular clubs of this city.
The funeral service is being held this afternoon, beginning at 3 o'clock, and conducted the Rev. H. Comin in the absence of Mrs. Gibson's pastor, the Rev. W. O. Fisher. Interment will be in the Pleasant Plains or (Gibson) cemetery north of town, where the husband and children are buried.

BURIAL: Gibson or Pleasant Plain Cemetery, Washington, Washington County, Iowa. The cemetery is located on approximately 1 acre of land, at the North West corner of what was the Alexander and his son William A. Gibson farm till about 1908. The legal description is: Section 19, T.76N.-R.7W. GIBSON, Alexander 06 Apr 1825 01 Jan 1905; wife Mary Henderson GARDNER 07 Oct 1835 10 July 1912 (both on West side; GIBSON, Minnie E. died June 10, 1891 aged 23 years, Myra N. died Dec 26 1887 age 17, Mary . died Dec 14 1878 aged 6 years, Alice M. died Nov 11 1878 aged 3 years, children of A & M H GIBSON, (all these names on South Side).
