THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 23, 2006.

Lowell Vernon Sansgaard, 79, retired farmer, died Tuesday, March 21, at his home near Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 24, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be in Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Lowell was born on Feb. 26, 1927, to Joseph and Alma (Johnson) Sansgaard. He graduated from Randall High School and served in the Merchant Marines. He married Betty Ann Johnson Feb. 14, 1948. They moved to a farm in Boone County in 1958 where they raised three children. He married Ardis Fevold in 1987. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Chuch.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Ann; his parents; and two brothers Donald and LaVerne.

He is survived by his wife, Ardis; two daughters, Linda Thorson (Jeff) of Ames and Diane Moeller (Wendell) of Houston; and one son, Daniel Sansgaard (Cheryl) of Slater. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jamie (Avril) Larson and Nick Larson, Chad Moeller and Kristin Moeller and Keaton Sansgaard and Logan Sansgaard. He also had two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Garrett Larson. Other surviving members are five step-daughters, Lauri Westfall (Randy) of Grand Island, Neb., LeAnn Haynes (Norville), Sherry Evans (Harvey), Kathy Reimers (Steve) and Becky Gargano, all of Humboldt. He also is survived by 15 step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
