THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, March 16, 2006.

Loren R. Rhoads, 92, of Maxwell, died Monday, March 13, at Story Long Term Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with the Rev. Dean Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell. A lunch will be served at the Maxwell Area Community Center following the burial.

Loren was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Mosier, Mo., the son of Fred and Emma (Newland) Rhoads. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1933. He married Elizabeth "Libby" Gardner Feb. 12, 1934, in Newton. She died April 18, 1998. He was a farmer and had also worked at Firestone Tire Company in Des Moines for 30 years. He was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ada (Jack) Pierce of Maxwell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dene Rhoads of Overland Park, Kan., and Bob (Anna Maria) Rhoads of Plano, Texas; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nora Crumb of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Jennie K. Pierce; one sister, Irene; and five brothers: Bob, Clyde, Wilbur, Forrest and George.

Visitation with the family present will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Bacon Funeral Home.
