AGED RESIDENT PASSED AWAY
DAVID DENNISTON, 83, DIDED AT HOME IN COLLINS EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING
Another highly respected citizen and pioneer of the Collins community has been called by death.
David Denniston passed away at his home in Collins early yesterday morning, Oct 22, after being in gradually failing health for some time.
David Denniston was born in Dark county, Ohio, Jan. 8, 1848, and came with his parents to Iowa when a boy of about 10 years, locating near Newton. His father was killed in an accident, thereby leaving the mother with small children to brave the battles of a new country alone.
A few years later they pruchased the farm southwest of Collins known as the Johnston Denniston farm, paying $37 (corrected in the paper the next day as 37 cents) per acre for the place. The mother passed away in 1887.
David married Sarah Parker in 1871. In 1874 they bought the Denniston farm where Henry Denniston now lives. Three children were born to this union: Henry C., Flora E. (Mrs. G. F. Holland), both of Collins, and Bessie who passed away when but three years of age.
In 1903 they moved from the farm to the home in Collins, where in 1916 the wife passed away. Mr. Denniston has kept the home as the wife left it through the years, his keenest interest being there and in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The father, mother, wife, sisters and brothers have all preceeded him in death, excepting Brother Louden of Oklahoma City, who will be in attendance at the funeral.
Mr. Denniston was a member of the Methodist Protestant church.
The brother, son, daughter, six grand daughters, two grandsons, nine great grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends are left to regret the passing of a faithful brother, father and friend.
The funeral services will be held from the home, probably Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment in Collins Evergreen cemetery.
