Lois Woods Matters, 82, of Ames, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Israel Family Hospice House. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Unity Church of Ames. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Adams Funeral Home, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.

Lois Marie (Woods) Matters, 82, of Ames, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Heather Withers of Unity Church officiating. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Lois was born July 13, 1923, in Burlington to parents Samuel Fredrick and Blanche (Burkey) Woods. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940. She married Richard Matters in March 1943 in Ames. She was a glass blower and worked in packaging at Hach Chemical. She lived her entire adult life in Ames. She loved cats, reading, music, walking, gardening and table games.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Matters (Jim Prouty) of Ames and Merry Matters (John Magnuson) of Booneville, Mo.; one sister, Marvis "Jean" Spencer of Richfield, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jacob Magnuson of Columbia, Mo., and Emily Magnuson of Booneville, Mo.; and her beloved cats Ringo, Timothy and Leo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Unity Church of Ames and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Adams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741-5000.
Adams Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
