Virginia Brooks Jacobson, 88, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Nevada, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. Myron D. Herzberg officiating. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery.
Virginia was born April 24, 1917, in Story County to David and Jennie (Burnett) Brooks. She graduated from Milford Township High School in 1936. She married LaVerne Jacobson Jan. 9, 1940, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada. They farmed in Story County until LaVerne's death, at which time Virginia moved to Nevada. She retired in 1979 from Rueben H. Donnelley Corp. in Nevada. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and the Mary Circle. She loved to play cards and do puzzles. She was an avid reader. She was known for her baking and cooking. She enjoyed being with family and friends after all of her chores were done.
She is survived by two daughters, Gwen (Max) Lowe of Cedar Falls and Kathy (Steven) Fuller of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Craig (Jill) Lowe of Spencer, Chris (Mike) Specht of Overland Park, Kan., David (Lori) Fuller of Dike and Donald (Leah) Fuller of Marion; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Virgil Brooks of Nevada; two sisters, Genevieve Myrland of Eagan, Minn., and Isabelle Hillis of Story City; one sister-in-law, Margaret Brooks of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LaVerne, on April 30, 1969; and three brothers, Lester Brooks, Mervin Brooks and LaVerne Brooks.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 20 with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada or Western Home Communities in Cedar Falls.
