THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, December 27, 2005.

Ole Ingval Haaland died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 25, of leukemia at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg.

Ole was born Dec. 17, 1917, near Nevada and farmed for more than 30 years near McCallsburg. He served in World War II in the 951st Field Artillery Battalion, crossed into Normandy Beach on June 12, 1944 and celebrated his birthday on the eve of the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He forged life-long friendships renewed each summer at the 951st Army Reunion held across the United States.

He was active in the Masons in Story City and served as Grandmaster for four years.

Those left to celebrate his life are two daughters, Karen Cory and her husband, Lew, of Des Moines and Virginia DeHaan and he husband, Doug, of West Des Moines; one son, David Haaland and his wife, Colette, of Nevada; grandsons, Sean, Ryan and Ian Cory and granddaughters Rachel and Kati, and great-grandchildren, Emily, Nick, Alex, Saber, Keura and Capri; and two brothers, Juel Haaland of Ames and Tillet Haaland of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Anna.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 tonight at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.. The family also will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Ole was deeply loved by the many whose lives he touched and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
