Obituary - Bert O. Christenson

STORY CITY - Bert O. Christenson, Story City, died Jan. 25 at 3:45 p.m. in the Story City hospital at th age of 51 after a lingering illness.

Funeral service was Jan. 28 at Grade Evangelical United Brethren church in Story City at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. D. Winter, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Luther Matson sang "Sometime We'll Understand" and "At the End of the Road." Turman Quam sang "Jesus My Friend." Mrs. Dorrell Doolittle played the organ.

Pallbearers were James E. Bergeson, Roy Jewell, Lester Johnson, Lester Severeid, Ben Severeid and John Wierson. Burial was in Story City cemetery.

Mr. Christenson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Christenson. He was born near Story City July 20, 1904. He received his public school trianing in Story City and was graduated from the high school in 1924. He attended Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls.

He was united in marriage to Luella Paulson at Galena, Ill., May 3, 1936. Four children were born to the couple.

Mr. Christenson worked for 20 years as drayman for the Chicago and North Western railroad. He later worked in the family cafe in Story City.

He became ill Oct. 10, 1955. After eight weeks in University hospitals, Iowa City, he returned home in fair health. Jan. 20 of this year he was admitted to the Story City hospital where he died.

Surviving are his wife, Luella; his four children, John Ray, Ft. Bliss, Tex., Sharon Lou, Sally Ann and Alan Lee, all at home; his parents, two brothers, Palmer C., Story City and Arthur C., Burbank, Calif; and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Dobbe, Slater, Mrs. Delia Havnen, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Floyd Hamm, Burbank, Calif.
