Ethel May Welch, daughter of Mrs. Arthur Warren, passed away at 12:40 p.n. November 8, 1912 at her home four miles east of Gilbert, IA. Age 10 years, 9 months, and 9 days.

Little May was coming up the cellar steps carrying the spindle of a cream separator, when near the top step she stumbled and fell, piercing the chest over the left lung.

She lived for thirteen days. Though loving hands ministered in every need she suffered intensely, but was always cheerful and patient, never complaining.

Little May belonged to the Pleasant Grove Sunday School and was a faithful attendant. She attended School at Pleasant Grove also and will be greatly missed by her school mates who found in her a true friend and a willing helper. She has always been faithful in her school work and has never been wanting where duty called her. She had a sympathetic nature, her kind words and cheerful ways have won for her a host of friends, who know that their loss is but another’s gain.

Many little gifts were brought to her by her schoolmates to cheer her through her illness. She had a kind, loving disposition, always trying to keep her mother and care for her little brothers and sisters. During the brief illness she was conscious at times and a short time before her death she tried to sing "He Loves Me So." She leaves a mother, step father, three sisters and six brothers.

A precious one from us has gone A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home Which never can ve filled.

The funeral was held at the home at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Pardun of Gilbert officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Gilbert cemetery.
