Earl O. Wright, 88, of Hubbard, and formerly of Bella Vista, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 10, at Hubbard Care Center in Hubbard. Following cremation, memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, with the Rev. Randy Crane officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Earl Orville Wright was born July 2, 1917, in Bloomington, Wis., the son of Orville P. and Leta (Hale) Wright. He was raised on a farm in Grant County, Wis., and received his education in Bloomington. He then attended the University of Platteville and received a bachelor's of science degree. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, 33rd Infantry Division in the South Pacific. He entered the service on April 18, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 27, 1945. He married Florence E. Hinkins June 22, 1946,. in Platteville, Wis. He then attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison and received a master's degree. In 1954, the family moved to Ames, and he became an associate professor at Iowa State University. He was a professor for more than 20 years; he retired in 1979. He then took a position as the executive secretary of the International Association of Milk Food and Environmental Sanitarian. When Earl retired from this position, he and Florence retired to Bella Vista, Ark. living there for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Florence E. Wright of Hubbard; one son, Robert Wright and his wife, Jan, of Omaha; one daughter, Esther Christopher and her husband, Tom, of Eldora; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Glenn, Virgil, Lyle and Zane Wright.
