Washington Township
In the passing of Keziah McCarthy Smith, formerly of Washington township, but more recently of Omaha passes one of the earliest settlers of Washington township. When her parents, Morgan and Francina Keltner came here in 1853 they brought and located on the farm beside the Oakwood schoolhouse now owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ringgenberg. That school was known for years as the Keltner school. After her first marriage* she lived on a farm south of Ames for many year. Her old neighbors will unite in saying she was one of the kindest hearted neighbors they ever had. Her son Arthur McCarthy came here from South Dakota to attend the funeral.
*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Henry McCarthy and Keziah/Kiziah Keltner were married 3 January 1861 in Story County, Iowa and divorced 21 November 1883 in Story County, Iowa.
