Obituary of Mrs. John M. Christian

Mrs. John M. Christian, nee Helen A. Jondall, daughter of Hans and Anna Jondall, was born October 23, 1878, on a farm southeast of Roland where she grew to womanhood.

In 1901 she was united in marriage to John M. Christian. They lived on farms south of Roland until 1938 when they retired to Roland, where Mr. Christian passed away in August of 1956.

Mrs. Christian was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and was a life long member of the churches of Roland. At the time of her death she was a member o f the Salem Lutheran Church, where she was an acting member until two years ago when her vision failed.

She was cared for in her home by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mrs. June Lock and Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Borwick. Three months ago she suffered a stroke and was hospitalized at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, where she died August 2, 1965, at the age of 86 years.

Funeral services were held at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland on Thursday, August 5, at 2 p.m., after which interment was in the Roland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Floyd Christian, Earl Christian, Richard Eggland and Andrew Tjelmeland, all of Roland, Kay Gaard and Henry Erickson of Nevada.

Her six daughters and two sons were present at the funeral: Mrs. June Lock, Roland; Hansell and Marion Christian, both of Colo; Mrs. Cleo Cecil, Gardena, Calif; Mrs. Jeffery (Olive) Borwick of Roland; Mrs. Kenneth (Arlet) Smith of State Center; Mrs. Adio (Ruby) Freeman of Los Angeles, Calif; and Mrs. Borg (Frances) Holen of Roland. One son, Frank died in childhood.

Mrs. Christian is survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Christian was the last survivor of the Hans Jondall family of 12 children.
