Shirley Dunn Cockerham
March 23, 1931, to Dec. 13, 2003Shirley Dunn Cockerham, 72, of Nevada, died on Saturday, Dec. 13, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.
She was born to Daniel James Dunn and Mary Emma (Meimann) on March 23, 1931, in Marshall County. She graduated from Fernald High School in 1948 and attended Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She married Irvin Willis Cockerham at St. Patrick's church in Nevada on Jan. 6, 1951. She loved her family, quilting, camping with the 241 Coachman's club and spending winters in Arizona and summers in Iowa. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Nevada Hobby Club, the Garden Club, Saint Brigid's study club and the Christian Family Movement church group, the 241 Coachman club and previously a member of the Nevada ABWA. Shirley and Irv participated in the Meals on Wheels program in Nevada. She worked for more than 30 years at General Financial Supply.
Survivors include her husband, Irvin Cockerham of Nevada; two daughters, Teresa (and John) Haaland of Nevada and Cynthis (and Dave) Testroet of Nevada; two sons, Daniel (and Melody) Cockerham of Nevada and Keith (and Patricia) Cockerham of Appleton, Wis.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson; a sister, Mary Lou (and Donald) Vollmer of Castle Rock, Colo.; and two aunts, Nellie Dunn Megan of St. Anthony and Laura Dunn Oswalt of Bloomington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Jon Seda officiating. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
