Harvey LeRoy Wissler
May 27, 1924, to Dec. 15, 2003

Harvey LeRoy Wissler, age 79, died at home in Fountain Hills, Ari., on Dec. 15 of congestive heart failure with his wife and children at his side.

He was born in Wiota on May 27, 1924, to Claude and Gladys Wissler. He graduated from Atlantic High School and Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). He served in the Paratroopers during World War II. He coached football and boys' basketball in Colo from 1949-1952 and was an agent for American Mutual Life Insurance Co. (AmerUs) from 1952-1990 in Nevada. While in Nevada he was a member of the Methodist Church, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club and Indian Creek Country Club. He chaired the Greater Nevada Recreational Society and was a member of Boone-Story Life Underwriters' Assoc., which he also chaired one term. He earned Million-Dollar-Round-Table awards for 17 consecutive years, the Gerald E. Malone award for outstanding life underwriter of the year, and American Mutual's President's Trophy two years for the greatest volume agency production and persistency. Before Nevada schools has a golf program, he gave gratis lessons for any interested junior golfer at Indian Creek Country Club. He served on the Club's Board as grounds chairman and president, and was Club Champion at that Club for eight years.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce of Rio Verde and Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one son, Tom (and Ellie) Wissler of Nevada; four daughters, Terry Wissler (and Pete Brigham) of Fresno, Calif., Randi Mitchell of Austin, Texas, Janelle Wissler of San Francisco, Calif., and Holly Wissler of Tallahassee, Fla. and Cusco, Peru; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Ashes will be interred at the Columbarium at Rio Verde Community Church in Rio Verde, Ariz., where he and Joyce have lived since his retirement in 1989.
