Carol Jo Banks
Aug. 6, 1955, to March 6, 2000

Carol Jo Banks, 44, of Colo of cancer on Monday, March 6, at her home in Colo.

She was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Grinnell to John W. and Frances J. (Lievens) Newman. She was a 1973 graduate of Nevada High School and received her LPN degree from Marshalltown. She married David D. Banks on July 27, 1974, in Nevada. She was employed for 10 1/2 years as a lab technician with the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo and enjoyed reading and the internet.

Survivors include her husband, David of Colo; two sons, Joseph D. and Jamie M., both of Colo, her father and stepmother, John "Jack" and Arlene Newman of Colo; and two sisters, Kathy Tjelmeland of Carlisle and Janice McConnell of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her mother on Aug. 5, 1996.

Memorial services were held today, March 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo. Burial followed in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established for the Colo Library and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colo. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
