Death Sunday Of J. O. Michaelson, 91, Former Supervisor

Jacob Oley Michaelson, 91, former Story county supervisor, died Sunday at 9:45 in Mary Greeley hospital in Ames. Death was due to complications of old age.

He was taken to the hospital Dec. 22 after being ill since May 18.

Mr. Michaelson, a retired farmer, was born in Stavanger, Norway on Feb. 1, 1860. He came to Ames in August, 1877 and began farming. He retired in 1918.

He served as a county supervisor for Story county from 1904 to 1910. He was an active participant in church and civic affairs in Gilbert and was a member of the First Congregational church in Ames.

On Dec. 22, 1886, he married Josephene Jorgenson in Nevada. She preceded her husband in death on Dec. 17, 1940. Mrs. Michaelson was a sister of late Mrs. L. C. Rierson of Nevada.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Adams chapel with the Rev. W. Murray Allan, pastor of the First Congregational church in charge. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Walter M., Ames, former County Treasurer; three grandchildren, Ruth Michaelson, Berkely, Calif.; Marion L., Detroit, Mich., Robert J., Decatur, Ill., and two great grandchildren.
