Last Rites For Sarah Menzel
The last rites for Miss Sarah Menzel were held from the McCallsburg Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon following a prayer service at the Menzel home with her pastor the Rev. James D. Ransom in charge.
The casket bearers were nephews of the deceased, Raymond Menzel, Roger Menzel, Wayne Menzel, Clifford Imsland, Richard Stevenson and Duncan Irish.
Mrs. LeRoy Ringgenberg presided at the piano and accompanied Mrs. F. E. Nail and Miss Catherine Craig who sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus."
The beautiful floral gifts were cared for by Mrs. Emma Thompson and Mrs. Alfred Tolly. There were a number of memorial gifts given in Sarah's memory. Burial was made in the family lot in the McCallsburg cemetery.
Sarah Amelia Menzel, eldest daughter of Charles H. and Anna Menzel was born Oct. 2, 1885 with the exception of three years when she lived in Nevada, she had lived all her life in or near McCallsburg. Through much of her life she was afflicted with one illness or another but she continued active, always willing to help other people, always faithful in attending Sunday school and church if she was able to do so. For some time she has been in failing health and has been hospitalized for the past four months, but was at the home of her sister, Mrs. Anna Johnson in Nevada, when she passed away Tuesday, March 18, 1952.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Anna Menzel, by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Johnson and Mrs. William Stevenson both of Nevada, by three brothers, Frank of Nevada, Earl of Zearing and Lester of McCallsburg.
She also leaves to mourn her passing a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who will miss her smiles and encouraging words and friendly interests. She was preceded in death by her father and a sister, Mable. She was a member of the Gleaners Sunday school class and for 40 years a member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian church.
Among the relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bauser of Bellwood, Ill., Miss Bernice Bauser of Blue Island, Ill., and Mrs. Rose Stevens of Ottawa, Ill., Clifford Ismland from Seattle, Wash., the Raymond Menzel family of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Will Irvine of Blue Earth, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Tom Tarman of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Stenberg of Marshalltown and a number of relatives and friends from surrounding towns.
