THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, November 30, 2005.
Robert Arthur Gustafson, 68, of Kelley, died Monday, Nov. 28, at Israel Family Hospice in Ames of complications from lung cancer. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Bethany Lutheran Church, in Kelley, with the Rev. Katherine Werner officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Madrid.
Robert was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Boone to Arthur and Florence (Reynoldson) Gustafson. He married Carol Severtson Oct. 2, 1959, in Slater. He was a lifetime resident of Boone County. He was a sixth-grade teacher in the Nevada School District before he retired in 1996. He was a member of the National Antique Oldsmobile Club, played trombone in the Ballard Community Band and was on the Heritage Hall board of directors.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Kelley; two daughters, Jan (Ray) Dittmer of Lacona and Julie (James) Minot of Madrid; two brothers, Richard and Raymond Gustafson; two grandchildren, Heidi and Christina Dittmer; two step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials will be used to fund the completion and installation of three stained glass windows he was making for Bethany Lutheran Church.
