Virgil H. Bickelhaupt

Virgil H. Bickelhaupt, 69, died Sunday, June 14, 1987 at his home in Story City. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at Bethel Lutheran Church, Story City. Rev. Larry Tantow officiated. Burial was at the Center Cemetery southwest of Story City. Mrs. Janet Tantow, organist, accompanied soloist Rev. Rolfe Johnstad as he sang "It Is No Secret" and "How Great Thou Art." The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus."

Pallbearers were Hubert Bickelhaupt, Kelvin Bickelhaupt, Greg Voga, Howard West, Robert Gibson and Robert Larson.

Virgil Harvey Bickelhaupt, son of Henry W. and Belle (Sampson) Bickelhaupt, was born July 26, 1917 at the farm southwest of Story City where he lived and farmed until he retired and moved to Story City the fall of 1979. He was baptized at the German Lutheran Church, Boone, Iowa. He joined Grace E.U.B. Church, Story City, on Dec. 2, 1931 and was confirmed there.

He was united in marriage to Clarice West on April 10, 1949 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. They joined the Bethel Church a year later. To this union four children were born.

Survivors include his wife, Clarice, one daughter, Diane Hovick, Story City; three sons, Harold and Dan, both of Story City, and Jerry of Huxley; three daughters-in-law, Roxanne, Darla and Lynne Bickelhaupt; six grandchildren, Angela and Jason Hovick, Wendy and Nicholas, Brandon and Corey Bickelhaupt; one sister, Viola Bickelhaupt; one brother, Kenneth Bickelhaupt, Story City; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
