Wier S. Thorson

Wier S. Thorsosn, son of Lars and Valjer Wierson Thorson, was born January 29, 1886 in Story City, Iowa and passed away at the Story City Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, March 9, 1977 at the age of 91 years.

He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri Church.

He married Mabel Nelson of Roland, Iowa on March 9, 1914. They farmed near Story City until 1966 when they moved into Bethany Manor in Story City. Mabel preceded him in death December 20, 1972. To this union five children were born, namely, Marjorie Johnson, Ames, Iowa, Judith Knoche, Worthington, Minnesota, Joel Thorson, Loveland, Colorado, Vernon Thorson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and one son, Virgil, who died in infancy.

He married Emma Amdahl [should be Amdall], May 23, 1973. She passed away May 4, 1974. Wier had lived in the Residential Hall of the hospital for the past two and one half years. Twelve grandchildren also survive him, besides three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Anna Henryson of Story City.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City. The Rev. C. A. Gisselquist was in charge. Miss Louise Olson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Benjamin Anderson, soloist. Casket bearers were Stanley Johnson, LeRoy Johnson, William Knoche, Albert Henryson, Melbourne Henderson and Gaylord Henryson. Burial was at the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
