Floyd Thoreson

Floyd Virgil Thoreson was born August 2, 1908, on a farm east of Ellsworth to Oscar and Elizabeth Olson Thoreson and passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 1986 at Bethany Manor, Story City.

Floyd attended public school in the Ellsworth community. On Feb. 11, 1934, he was united in marriage with Florence Marie Rasmussen of Ames. Floyd and Florence made their home in Ames until 1941, at which time Floyd entered the United State Army Air Corps where he was stationed at Long Beach, Calif., for the duration of World War II.

Following the war the Thoresons returned to Ames where Floyd was in the heating and air conditioning business. Upon retirement, the Thoresons moved to Story City in 1914. For the past three years they have made their home at Bethany Manor. Floyd was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 52 years, a daughter, Karen Templer, and son-in-law Jerry; granddaughter, Michelle, and a grandson, Michael, all of Sherborn, Mass. He is also survived by a sister, Jo Ann Brandt of Minneapolis, Minn.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kermit, Roy and Wendall; and by two sisters, Verna Peter [should be Porter] and Odella Thoreson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, 1986, at 10 a.m. at Bethany Manor with the Rev. Enoch Hall officiating and at 1:30 p.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church with the Rev. Rolfe Johnstad officiating. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Anderson, Clark Anderson, Delmar Hill, Robert Hill, Bill Thoreson and Ralph Thoreson.
