Walter K. Sim

Walter "Wally" Knox Sim, 48, Roland died Thursday, August 9, 1990, of a heart attack. Services were held Monday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City with Rev. Rolfe Johnstad officiating. Grace Johnson was the organist, and Rev. Johnstad the soloist. Casket bearers were David Anderson, Dennis Olson, Mike Stille, John Njus, Gary Van Loon and Sterling Wicks. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Walter Knox Sim was born Jan. 17, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He was graduated from Luther North High School and attended technical school in Chicago. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Chicago. He married Shirley Johnson Koch (formerly of Ames) on May 20, 1971 in Chicago. The family moved to Roland in 1977. He was employed by PUTCO for the past 10 years. His friends and neighbors appreciated his talents as a craftsman with masonry, carpentry, welding and other construction trades. His volunteer services were generous. He love 4-H and worked behind the scenes to make projects run smoothly.

Wally is survived by his wife, Shirley; mother, Dorothy Wiegand Dienberg, Chicago; three daughters, Deborah (Mrs. Russell) Wiese, Roland, Cynthis (Mrs. Duane) Ramsey, Fountain, Colorado, and Pamela Quade, Roland; one son, Michael A. Koch, Ames; six grandchildren, Kenneth and Robert Wiese, Tara and Tyler Quade, and Stephanie and Sen Ramsey; and one sister, Barbara (Mrs. Kenneth) Kropke, Addison, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Knox Sim, Sr, and stepfather, Robert H. Dienberg.

Memorials may be made to the St. Petri building fund or designated for 4-H awards.
