Jerald Severson

Jerald "Jerry" Dean Severson, 31, Story City, died Tuesday, March 21, 1989, of injuries received in an auto accident near Napier. Funeral services were held Friday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Story City, with the Rev. Rolfe Johnstad officiating. Rev. Stephen L. Amenson served as lector. Grace Johnson, organist, accompanied Rolfe S. Johnstad, vocalist, and the Joy Trio, Sherri Tjernagel, Susan Amenson and Mary Severseike.

Pallbearers were Galen Stole, Brian Sampson, Kevin Severson, Ron Rahfeldt, Brent Johnson, Paul Voga and Terry Lake.

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Jerald Severson was born in Storm Lake to Milton and Gloria Severson. He attended public school in New Hartford, Shell Rock, Chariton and Story City. He was baptized in the Christian faith on December 22, 1957 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and was confirmed on April 15, 1973 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City.

The Severson family moved to Story City in 1970 where Jerry graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1976. He attended the Des Moines Area Community College majoring in building trades. He was employed by Conversion Contractors of Story City.

He married Diane Mostrom on Aug. 23, 1980.

He was actively involved in St. Petri Lutheran Church, serving in various capacities, including the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; three children, Andrea, Grant and Laura; one brother, Robert Severson of Story City; one sister, Mary Peterson of Story City; his parents, Milton and Gloria Severson of Story City and his grandmother, Alice Severson of Kanawha.
