Gaylord Jacobson

Gaylord Jacobson, 91, died at his home, Saturday, Sept. 12, 1987 of a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Bethel Lutheran Church, Story City with the Rev. Larry Tantow officiating.

Mrs. Joel Jacobson served as organist and accompanied Harris Twedt, Jr., soloist, who sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casket bearers were Joel Jacobson, Doug Wierson, Keith Wierson, Michael Mesch, John Kiefer, Jody Mesch and Clark Mesch. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Gaylord Jacobson was born July 5, 1896, in Hamilton County, to Sam and Sarah (Swenson) Jacobson. He was raised in Randall and Ellsworth. He was a veteran of WWI, and a lifetime member of the Story City American Legion. On Sept. 10, 1919, he married Jurina Twedt. In 1948 they moved to Story City where he worked for the city until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Jurina of Story City, one son, Vernon of Jewell; three daughters, Genevieve Kiefer of Dubuque, Shirley Post of Nevada, and Joyce Mesch of New Providence; two brothers, Elmer Jacobson of Hollywood, Calif., and Silas Jacobson of North Port, Fla.; one sister Mamie Twedt of Story City, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Harold, three brothers and one sister.
