MRS. C. HANDELAND FUNERAL WAS FRIDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah Handeland were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 6 with a short prayer service at Sunset Home with Rev. Ivar Havneros and Rev. L. A. Mathre in charge, and at 2 p.m. in Immanuel church in Story City with the Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating.

Mrs. Bertha Pederson sand "Den Store Hvide Flok" at the Sunset Home, and at the church, Mrs. Robert Hermanson sang "I Could Not Do Without Thee" and "Oh Take My Hand, Dear Father."

Pallbearers were Otis, Clarion and Anna Weltha, Elmer Handeland, Gilbert Handeland and Bernith Resetter.

Burial was in Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Obituary

Johanna Weltha was born near Randall on Feb. 24, 1869 and died March 1, 1955 at the Sunset Home in Story City at the age of 86 years and 5 days.

Her parents were Osmond and Maren Weltha.

She was baptized April 4, 1869 by Pastor Nels Amlund and was confirmed in St. Petri Lutheran church in Story City in 1883 by Pastor Sherven. She attended school in the well known Sheldahl school house near Randall.

December 24th, 1892 she was united in marriage to Chester Handeland by Rev. Jacobson of Roland. To this union eight children were born. Surviving are one daughter and five sons, Carl of McCallsburg; Osbourne of Chicago; (Emma) Mrs. Milford Britson of Roland; John, Des Moines; Milford of Ames and Miram of St. Paul, Minn.

Preceding her in death were her husband who passed away June 25, 1947; two children, Carney, at the age of 13 months and Arthur in 1952; four brothers and three sisters.

She had lived her entire life in this community. She was a member of Elim Lutheran church for about twenty years. After moving to Story City she joined the St. Petri church, of which she has since been a member.

Besides her children, she also leaves to mourn her passing, 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
