Obituary
ARTHUR HANDELAND
Arthur Handeland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Handeland, was born Aug. 20, 1905 on a farm near Story City and passed away Saturday, May 31, in Ames at the age of 46 years, 9 months and 20 days, death being due to a heart attack.
He was baptized in the North St. Petri church by Rev. Vangsness and was confirmed in Bergen Lutheran church, Roland, by Rev. G. Smedal.
He was united in marriage to May Belle Teig, June 17, 1933. To this union six children were born, namely, Arlene, Carroll, Loren, Gerald, Virgil and Doris Ann.
Preceding him in death was his wife who passed away Sept. 23, 1944, and his father.
Left to mourn his departure besides his children are, his mother, Mrs. Hannah Handeland of Roland, five brothers and one sister, Carl of McCallsburg, Osbourne of Chicago, Emma (Mrs. Milford) Britson of Roland, John of Des Moines, Milford of Garner and Miram of St. Paul, Minn.
He made his home at Jewell and Webster City for a number of years and was employed at Iowa State college in Ames for the last two and one-half years.
Funeral services were held for Arthur Handeland, on Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 at Erickson funeral home in Roland and at the St. Petri church at 2 p.m. Burial was at the Story City cemetery.
Rev. Havneros officiated at the service and Mrs. Robert Kenney sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name," accompanied by Mrs. Alfred Jacobson at the organ.
Pallbearers were cousins of the deceased: Otis, Joseph and Amos Weltha; Elmer, Orville and Gilbert Handeland.
From a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Miram Handeland and children of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Milford Handeland of Garner; John Handeland of Des Moines; Mrs. Josie Naig of Emmetsburg; Marvin Peterson of Ft. Dodge and Clarence Handeland of Northwood.
