Greenwood, IN - Carol Ann Johnstone, 59, died on October 8 at Greenwood Village Nursing Home. Born July 17, 1946 in Springfield, IL to John and Mary Furrer, Carol grew up in Nevada, Iowa and graduated from Nevada High School in 1964. She graduated from Butler University, Indianapolis, IN in 1968 and taught French in the Indianapolis Public Schools for several years. Carol also received an MS in Education from Butler University in 1974 and a Masters in Social Work from Indiana University in 1994. She was a member of the Boone County, Indiana Area Planning Commission for several years and was an ardent advocate for environmentally responsible development and the preservation of rural land. She was an accomplished gardener and avid reader, as well as a beloved sister, mother, and friend.

Surviving Carol are her three children, Joseph Johnstone (Martinsville, IN), Emily Johnstone (West Lafayette, IN), and Sarah Johnstone (Cambridge, MA); and her sister, Barbara Johnstone of Columbia, SC. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services were held at Crown Hill Funeral Home with subsequent burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis on Wednesday, October 12.
