Roland Shocked By Sudden Death of Mrs. Thompson
Roland, Dec. 23 -- This community received a distinct shock Sunday when the sudden death of Mrs. Amond Thompson, 78, of a heart attack after a week's illness, was announced.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon with prayer at the home at 1:30 and the funeral in the Salem church at 2:00 with her pastor Rev. Olaf Holen in charge. Burial will be in the Roland cemetery by the side of the husband, who passed away in 1917.
Mrs. Thompson was a native of Etna, Norway, where she was born February 16, 1862, a daughter of Swen and Gjorie Holland.
The family came to America when the daughter Etna was 20 years old and here she was married to Amond Thompson February 18, 1885. They settled on a farm 6 1/2 miles southeast of Roland in the corner of Richland township and there they made their home until 1911 when they moved to Roland and here the husband passed away.
One son, Leslie Thompson preceded the mother in death. Those children surviving are T. A. Thompson of Burbank, S. D., Mrs. Oscar G. Twedt of Roland, Mrs. Wier Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Jeffrey Michaelson of Jewell and the daughter Miss Sylvia who had continued to make her home with the mother after the death of the father.
She also leaves ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren and three brothers. The brothers are Oliver McClelland of St. Paul, Sam Holland of Nanaka, Minn., and Henry Holland of Ames.
