ARTHUR LEROY BALLARD
Arthur Leroy Ballard, son of Hudson L. and Mary Corbin Ballard, was born near Story City November 19, 1866, and departed this life July 18, 1941, at his home in Winterset, Iowa.
He was married to Miss Alta Sowers, a neighborhood girl, on March 4, 1895. To this union were born five children: Ruth, Lloyd, Verna, Lyle and Dorothy. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife and Mrs. Ruth Brubaker of Des Moines, Lloyd Ballard of Sioux City, Lyle of Charlotte, N. C., Dorothy Taylor of Waialua, Aohu, Hawaii. There are four grandchildren: Mrs. Earl Day and Mary Jane Brubaker of Des Moines, Richard, aboard the USS Oklahoma in the Navy, and John Clifford Ballard.
Mr. Ballard was a member of the Church of Christ and Masonic Fraternity and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a great believer in practical Christianity and was a good neighbor.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 10th, at the Ramsey-Richard Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Foglesong officiated. The Masonic Lodge had the Fraternal burial rite at the grave in the Winterset cemetery.
