Two Deaths Sadden Same Family at Collins

Collins, Dec. 4--Military honors will be accorded to Vincent E. Crabb, 49, Collins World War veteran, who died from a sudden heart attack here Sunday, when the body is laid to rest in the Collins cemetery Tuesday at 2 p. m. Collins Legionnaires will officiate at the burial.

Mr. Crabb died Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Arthur Tiffany, southeast of Collins, from a sudden heart attack.

Born in Collins July 22, 1890, a son of Everett and Sophia Harper-Crabb, he had lived in the community all his life.

He enlisted in the U. S. Army for service in the world war July 29, 1917, serving with B Company 210 Engineers, first at Camp Dodge and later at Camp Forrest, Georgia, and was discharged from the service in 1918.

He was married to Miss Cora Kern shortly before entering the army and leaves the wife and two children, Mrs. Betty Tiffany at whose home he died, and Lucile at home.

Besides the wife and two daughters he leaves his mother Mrs. Sophia Crabb and a sister Mrs. john Johnson of the Baxter neighborhood.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at the Methodist church in Collins, with Rev. Paul McDade of Des Moines in charge. Burial will be in the Collins cemetery with military honors.

Another Death In Family

Another death that saddened the same family occurred this morning at 5 o'clock, when Glen A. Tilton, 59, stepfather of Mrs. Crabb, died her after an illness of about 2 years.

Mr. Tilton was born in Ogle county, Illinois, June 29, 1880, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Tilton. He came out to Collins over 40 years ago and was long identified with the local telephone exchange, first as manager and later as owner, until disposing of his interests a few years ago.

His first wife who was Agnes Dodd he married at Toledo. After her death he was married to Mrs. Eva Kern of Collins and she survives him, together with his mother Mrs. Saretta Tilton of Collins and a brother Claude Tilton of Marshalltown. Besides these he leaves three stepchildren, they being Mrs. Cora Crabb of Collins, Dewey Kern of Collins and Mrs. Mable Kimberley o Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at the Collin Methodist church with Rev. Paul McDade in charge. Burial will be in the Collins cemetery.
