ANDREW FLATTEBO DIED LAST WEEK
Andrew M. Flattebo died at the Story City Hospital last Thursday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., at the age of 86 years and 4 months. He had been in failing health for some time, but took a turn for the worse rather suddenly and was in the hospital only one day before he passed away.
He was born in Gaarden, Flatebo, Norway, on Dec. 16, 1854, and came to America in the year 1886. Several years later he was united in marriage to Johanna C. Jones [aka Ljones] of Jondall, Norway, who came to America a few years before Mr. Flattebo. To this union were born seven children, a son, Gerhard, died in infancy, a daughter, Anna, died in 1908 at the age of 16 years; also a daughter Gertrude died in 1931 at the age of 32 years. His wife also preceded him in death in 1930, at the age of 65 years.
The surviving children are: Martin, Sherman and Severine of Story City, and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Koontz of South Bend, Indiana.
He spent his entire married life in Story City, and was well known in the community, having worked for many years as a carpenter in and around Story City. He acquired many friends in his occupation, and was respected and well liked by all who knew him.
He was a charter member of the Immanuel Lutheran church here, and was an active member and attended services faithfully as long as he was able to do so.
Funeral services were held in the Immanuel church, with Rev. Heimarck in charge, on Monday afternoon April 21. Pallbearers were P. A. Olson, A. G. Larson, Gust Ness, Lars Skaar, R. S. Jones and Rev. P. Buland. He was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery.
He was a kind and loving father, and will be greatly missed by the surviving children. Blessed be his memory.
