From Story City Herald February 19, 1897 (page 5)

DIED--Peter Olson quietly passed away at his home in this city last Friday afternoon, the cause of his death being cancer of the throat. Mr. Olson had been a sufferer more or less for the past five years, but it was only a short time ago that he began to have trouble about his eating. He went to Chicago a few weeks ago to consult physicians, but he could find no relief, and a week prior to his death he returned home. At the time of his death he was 63 years, 4 months, and 6 days old. He came to this country from Norway in 1871, lived in Chicago two years, and came to Story City in the winter of 1873, where he has since resided. He was twice married and leaves a wife and nine children, six girls and three boys. Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church at two o'clock Monday afternoon, afterwhich the remains were laid to rest by loving hands in the local cemetery. He was a kind and considerate gentleman, and nobody could say aught against him. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved family.
