MR. A. H. NEWNUM PASSES AWAY.
The Demise of a Respected Citizen.
DIED--Alexander H. Newnum, is dead. The end came at last and a life that had seen naught but suffering for the past three years came to a sudden termination at twenty minutes past nine o'clock on Monday evening, April 15, 1895. Mr. Newnum's disease was cattarrh, and his whole body was but a mass of tender aching nerves. For three years past he had been miserable and all the joy he obtained from life was the appreciation of kindness of friends and the false hope that some day he would throw off his misery and come forth a new man. But alas, how frail are human hopes. The terrible disease slowly but surely dragged him down until with one mighty effort it usurped his life.
Alexander H. Newnum was born near Covington, Indiana, Feb. 3, 1848, where he lived but a short time when he came to Iowa. He returned to Indiana and married Miss Estella Myers in 1872, bringing his bride at once to Iowa where they have lived ever since on their farm northwest of town. Mr. Newnum was an honest, upright business man and had the confidence and good will of all who knew him. In his demise his wife loses a kind and affectionate husband, is neighbors a friend and this part of Story county an honest straightforward citizen. Funeral services were held at two o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, in the Evangelical church, conducted by Rev. Day, the remains being buried in the cemetery at this place. To say that he was honored and respected by all his associates is the highest tribute that can be paid to a man. The sympathies of the community are with the grief stricken wife.
