MRS. MARIE LARSON
Mrs. Marie Larson was born in Sjelland, Denmark, on the 27th day of November, 1849. Her span of life having been only 3 months and 12 days less than 90 years was terminated last Friday morning, September 15, 1939. Up to almost the very end of her life her general state of health had been good with the exception of such ailments which are to be expected with old age. Her greatest affliction thruout the last decade was deafness, which deprived her of much fellowship which she might otherwise have enjoyed.
In the early years of her life she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and upon growing to womanhood she was married to Jens Larson on September 26, 1868, in Denmark. About 14 years later they left the land of nativity and migrated to America, arriving in Story county on March 2, 1881. At first they resided on a farm, and in 1893 their home was established in Story City, where she lived until her decease.
She was the mother of nine children, of whom two preceded her in death. Those who have died were Christena, who passed away Feb. 10, 1913, and Lewis W., who died August 1, 1935. Her husband was taken from her by death about 34 years ago, on April 10, 1905. It was goo fortune to be permitted to rear her children until they had acquired the age of manhood and womanhood, and these children were fortunate enough to have a mother's love lavished upon them. She is survived by these children: Mrs. Christian Christenson, in Denmark; Mrs. Mary Johnson of Cambridge; J. P. Larson of Blue Earth, Minn.; N. H. Larson of Chicago; G. N. Larson and Fred Larson of Winnebago, Minn.; W. R. Larson of Fairmont, Minn. and the two daughters, Jane and Carrie Larson, who cared tenderly for mother and sought to give her every available comfort during the declining years of her life. Besides these there are other relatives and many friends.
"The house of pain in which long years she lived
Too small hath grown;
The angel of the Lord hath touched the latch,
The prisoner flown.
And 'being let go'--whose songs have filled the night
These many years--
The soul redeemed hath found the realm of light
That knows no tears."
