CHRIS B. BOE

Christen Bjornsen Boe was born at Boe, Renneso, Stavanger, Norway, June 11, 1853, and died at Story City, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1939, at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 15 days.

He came to America in 1871, when 18 years old. The first three years he spent with an uncle at Ottawa, Ill., after which he came to Hamilton county, Iowa, and bought a farm eight miles northwest of Story City. On this homestead he lived until 1916, when he took up residence in Story City.

Mr. Boe was married twice, the first time in 1874 to Miss Olena Soren, who died in 1882, leaving three small children. He was married the second time in 1883 to Metta Korina Michelson, who passed away Sept. 14, 1930. To this union five children were born. These eight children are Mrs. Henry Jacobson, Ole, Michal and Mrs. H. J. Gertsen, all of Story City; Mrs. Henry Berdahl, Mrs. Ed Berdahl, Mrs. Ed Berdahl and Louis Boe, all of Lake Preston, S. D., and Mrs. Anna Cleveland of Arlington, S. D. He also leaves 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

As long as Mr. Boe was on his farm he was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church west of Randall; after moving to Story City he had been a member of the Bethel Lutheran church.

Mr. Boe was a hard-working man in his day. He tended his farm with great care and as a result of his hard labor and careful management he became in independent man as far as earthly things are concerned.

He gave his children a good Christian education, which they appreciate very much. There was always a happy re-union when the children came to visit their father. Now his day of labor is over and the time of his departure has arrived. We are thankful to him and the early pioneers who harnessed the prairie, who built our schools and churches and gave their children a Christian education. May we take up the work in state, school and church where they left it onward to the coming generation. We can not erect a better monument on the pioneers' graves.

Funeral services were held from the home and the Bethel church, Jan. 27th, Rev. G. L. Paulsrud officiating, assisted by Rev. H. Oppedal. $75.75 were given to missions in memory of Mr. Boe. Interment was made in the local cemetery. The grandchildren acted as pallbearers namely, Oreas and Clifton Boe, Arut and Miller Gertsen, Henry Jacobson and Milford Cleveland. --Cor.
