KNUT J. HILL

Knut J. Hill was born at Olen, Sondhordland, Norway, April 18, 1866, and died at his home at Roland on October 12, 1938, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 24 days. The cause of death was arteriosclerosis.

He came to America in May, 1886, and has lived in Story county ever since. He lived two years near Huxley, spent five years in the community about seven miles southeast of Roland, and one year in Story City, and the last 44 years has lived on the home place three miles east of Roland.

He was united in marriage to Bertha Nelson in Roland on March 31, 1892. Eleven children were born to this union, of whom two died in infancy. He is survived by his wife and the following children: John and Mrs. J. T. Molde of Roland; Mrs. John Johnson of Clarks Grove, Minn., Albert of Dayton, Berdella of Chicago, Reuben of McCallsburg, and Alma, Arthur and Mayme, who are staying at home. He also leaves one brother, Jacob Hill of Roland, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah Olson of Marshalltown, and 15 grandchildren.

Mr. Hill had been a member of Salem congregation for 45 years and had been active in its affairs. He held the offices of trustee and deacon at various times, and was a member of the committee that raised the money for the present church building.

Among those from a distance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Egeland and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Egeland and son of Wallingford, Rev. and Mrs. H. Fauske of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Endreland of Thompson, the John Johnson family of Clarks Grove, the Albert Hill family of Dayton, Mrs. Sarah Olson, Mrs. Hemphill and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Mellows and son of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Rasmussen of Ontario, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson of Ames and other relatives and friends from Randall, Story City, Gilbert and McCallsburg.
